SHARANSKY MEETS THE NEWEST ISRAELIS
In his first official appearance since being elected Jewish Agency Chairman, Natan Sharansky welcomed 75 new immigrants from Ethiopia who just arrived in Israel Wednesday (July 1) at a ceremony at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
The new immigrants, who received their new Israeli ID cards at the ceremony, will move to Jewish Agency absorption centers in Beersheva and Safed, where they will learn Hebrew, the rudiments of Western life and culture, and become acquainted with Israel and Jewish heritage. Many will be reunited with family members who immigrated to Israel years ago.
