The Jewish Agency for Israel lit Channukah candles together with Jewish communities around the world.

On Tuesday, 27th December 2005, the Jewish Agency held a grand Channukah candle-lighting ceremony with Jewish communities around the world.

During this ceremony, Jewish Agency emissaries lit candles in fifteen communities around the world, together with many olim and veteran groups in Israel, who are members of programs for young adults, such as SELA and Babait Beyachad, which connects new olim with veteran Israelis.

The main ceremony was held at the Western Wall plaza at 19:00 (Israel time), with the attendance of the Chairman of the Jewish Agency, Mr. Zeev Bielski,  prominent figures, and immigrant youth.

The ceremony was broadcast live on the Army Radio and the website of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation.

 Jewish Agency candle lighting ceremonies were held in:

  • Istanbul
  • Paris
  • Marseilles
  • Berlin
  • Kiev
  • Dnipropetrovsk
  • Kharkov
  • Moscow
  • Rostov
  • Piatiagorsk
  • St. Petersburg
  • Minsk
  • Kimberley, South Africa
  • Sweden – winter camps
  • Stuttgart – winter camps


Channukah celebration in Germany

The ceremony was conducted by the Immigration & Absorption Department, together with the Education Department and the Israel Department of the Jewish Agency for Israel.
