ALTSHUL ABSORPTION CENTER, BEER SHEVA

 Location
One of the oldest cities in Israel and the largest in the southern Negev desert region, Beer Sheva serves as the region's administrative, educational and health center. It is located on the main route from the center and north of the country to Eilat in the far south and boasts 200,000 residents with 600,000 in the greater metropolis. It is known for its high percentage of young residents and large student population and houses the Ben Gurion University of the Negev in addition to other colleges and educational institutes and the Soroka University Medical Center. In the 1990’s Beer Sheva saw a huge influx of Aliyah from The F.S.U which led to the building of new neighborhoods and the development of services.  Today the city is blessed with additional new and veteran immigrants from Ethiopia and many other parts of the world and helps to integrate them into all aspects of city life.
The Altshul Student Dormitories were first opened in 1960, with generous support from the Altshul family, Jewish-Spanish philanthropists and since have served student populations in Beer Sheva and the South.
The dorms are located adjacent to the center of town in Neve Ofer, one of the oldest and highest quality neighborhoods in the city where students enjoy the attention and friendliness of local residents.

Accommodations and Services
There are three dormitory buildings containing 104 housing units with a total of four people in each apartment. Each unit includes two bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom and basic furnishing such as beds, refrigerator, gas stove, hot water and desk. In addition to the 20 classrooms (including one video room and listening room), there is a computer room, social club, synagogue, dining room, gym and laundry room.
Students must supply their own linen, dishes and personal items.
General assistance, support, employment assistance and counseling is provided for the young adult immigrants with a professional staff maintaining constant contact and helping them overcome any difficulties during the absorption process.
