Residents The population of the Sapir Absorption Center is greatly varied – from primarily young adults and academics or students in the many Jewish Agency programs, to young married couples and families as part of a community enhanced program. The Center offers accommodations that are suitable to the needs of each and every oleh and strives to make them feel at home in their new surroundings.
Hebrew/Ulpan On-site ulpan classes offer varying levels of Hebrew. Taught by Ministry of Education licensed instructors, Hebrew classes are held five hours a day, five days a week. Due to the large number of immigrants in the health professions, the Center periodically offers, in addition to the five month ulpan, a special three-month ulpan with emphasis on medical terminology.
Culture The many young residents make frequent use of the gym and fitness room, while outside there is usually a game of basketball, volleyball or soccer going on. The Center’s entrance resembles a cafe as both vocal and more studious residents share a drink, study in pair, or catch up on their work in the computer rooms. Seminars, lectures and workshops are held in the Center, and residents enjoy frequent field trips around Israel. The Sapir Absorption Center comprises many classrooms, a modern dining room, a clubroom for lone soldiers, library, video and computer rooms, events hall, synagogue, sports fields, and spacious, green lawns.
Services Information sessions are provided to assist the oleh in the intricacies of finding and acquiring a home and finding employment. Staff are readily available to help olim obtain health insurance or an identity card, open a bank account, and negotiate the unfamiliar technicalities of a new country. In addition, they introduce olim to higher education and retraining options, as well as assist with registration and financial aid.
