Beit Canada Absorption Center

Ashdod, located on the southern coast,  is an important industrial city. The Port of Ashdod is Israel's main cargo port, processing up to 60% of Israeli marine cargo.

With wide boulevards and green parks, Ashdod has grown by leaps and bounds in the past decade with the massive arrival of immigrants from the former Soviet Union and infrastructure development.

Be it coincidence or fate, the Beit Canada Absorption Center happens to be located on Shavei Zion Street which translates to Returners to Zion.  Although the Center lies in the heart of the Rova Aleph's busy commercial area, one can find peace and serenity nearby - at  the well manicured municipal  park which leads to the sea.

Beit Canada residents are a diverse group of immigrant families and singles from all over the world.

Hebrew/Ulpan

Ulpan Aleph, the basic level, is taught in spacious classrooms by a team of dedicated teachers sent by the Ministry of Education. Graduates of the basic level can move forward to achieve bet and gimmel levels. The absorption center also offers ulpan classes geared toward special populations, the elderly, and engineers with an emphasis on technical terminology.

Culture/Recreation

The large hall at the Center is available for the residents needs and recreational activities. Programs relating to Jewish and Israeli holidays, Jewish culture and heritage, are in place to promote integration into Israeli society. Trips and seminars around the country complement these programs.

Accommodations

The absorption center consists of one and two  room apartments.
The one room apartments are for singles (2 in a room), families with a child up to the age of 4.
The two room apartments are for families with a child over the age of 5.
Each apartment includes basic furniture: refrigerator, stove, bathroom and shower, beds, table and chairs. Immigrants must bring their own kitchen utensils and bedding. Each room has an Internet connection, television, and cable phone. Connections are made independently.

Services

Beit Canada's on-site immigrant facilities service the entire Ashdod area. They include:

Beit Canada's staff prides itself on involving both the immigrant and non-immigrant community of Ashdod in its many holiday and cultural events, thereby facilitating interaction and building relationships.
