The Israel Student Authority, operating through the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption in collaboration with the Jewish Agency for Israel provides information and advice to students interested in studying in Israel, and tuition grants for eligible immigrant students.

The Student Authority grants regular tuition scholarships for up to three years of higher education for eligible new immigrant students for undergraduate and graduate degrees, and for practical engineering and some certificate studies.

To qualify, students must study at a recognized institution and be a new immigrant (or a returning minor or citizen born abroad asdefined by Israel’s Ministry of Absorption), and begin academicstudies within 36 months of making aliyah (or receiving this status). This does not include any time spent in the army or national service.

Once basic Hebrew skills (level Bet+) are achieved it is recommended that every student who wishes to continue his or her higher education participate in one of two pre-academic preparatory programs for new immigrants: a university preparatory program (Mechina) or a pre-academic program (TAKA). Before making aliyah, young adults can receive information and advice on study options in Israel from the Student  Authority.

The Student Authority will also evaluate academic documents(e.g. diploma, transcripts, etc.) and confirm eligibility for financial assistance.

In addition to financial assistance, the Student Authority provides new immigrants with a broad range of social activities, a network of guidance counselors, career counseling and tutoring services.
