Mechinot – Post High School Leadership Preparatory Programs are an exceptional way for new immigrants between the ages of 17.5-21 to engage in personal growth and smoothly integrate into Israeli society.
The program, run with a select group of Mechinot, offers idealistic young men and women the opportunity to live with motivated Israelis their age in a dynamic environment, learn Hebrew, delve intensively into Jewish textual study and participate in community service and social action volunteer work. The holistic leadership program prepares participants for life in Israel and strengthens their Israeli and Jewish identity.
Mechina programs range from observant yeshivot for religious men only, to non-observant programs in which men and women study together. Before joining their chosen Mechina, participants learn Hebrew for two months (July and August) at the Ye’elim Absorption Center in Beersheva. This is followed by the 10-month study program.
While at the Mechina, participants live in dormitories with their Israeli peers, receive full board and take part in all social activities. A counselor gives ongoing support, advice and guidance.
The support of the program doesn’t end when the program is finished. The Mechina staff keeps in touch with graduates, and Jewish Agency professionals arrange for each new immigrant to be adopted by an Israeli family.
