Academic Summer Ulpanim and Programs

Summer University Ulpan

A  6-8 week academic ulpan

  • For students who are not required to do the Mechina but who are interested in raising their Hebrew level or for Mechina students as part of their university requirements.
  • Recommended after level A of the regular five-month ulpan, in order to improve the student's academic involvement during his studies.

Hebrew University Summer/Winter Ulpan

An intensive Hebrew study course based at the Rothberg International School for Overseas Students, a faculty of the Hebrew University, Jerusalem

  • Six levels of instruction (five in the winter session) are offered. Total class time is 200 hours (150 hours of study in the winter session)
  • Hikes, tours and seminars are included

Hebrew University Summer Courses

Hebrew University offers a range of Jewish, Israel and Middle East studies with related field work, as well as an opportunity to study Hebrew, Arabic and Yiddish, archaeology, Jewish and Comparative Studies, International Relations, Science and Technology and much more.

  • Hikes, tours and seminars are included
  • 3,6 or 8 weeks (July-August)

Tel Aviv University Summer Session Campus Program

A four-week campus program is offered to academically qualified university students. Students may earn credits for this program. There is a beginners Hebrew course as well as the following courses offered:

  • Israeli Politics
  • Modern Jewish History
  • Introduction to Judaism
  • Arab Israeli Conflict: The Palestinians
  • Biography as History: The Zionist Revolution and The People Who Made It.
    (Honor course only open for students with GPA 3.2 or above)

University of Haifa Intensive Hebrew Summer Ulpan

The Summer Ulpan brings together students from over 40 countries who immerse themselves in an intensive Hebrew language experience. Instruction is offered on all levels, from elementary to advanced.

The Ulpan is divided into two independent four-week sessions. Each Ulpan session offers the full range of studies on all levels of proficiency. You may register for either or both of the sessions offered.

Classes are held on Sunday through Thursday mornings for five academic hours per day. A variety of learning tools are used in the classroom, including work in the language laboratory, computer and video sessions, as well as guest lectures and interviews. You will be given a great deal of personal attention by our exceptional Ulpan staff.

Weizmann Institute Foundation
Dr Bessie F. Lawrence Summer Science Institute

An opportunity to work alongside top Weizmann Institute researchers, as well as experiencing life in Israel today.  Most of the program is held on the campus. Studies are divided into Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Sciences. Lab. work centers on current research topics: immunology, cell biology, lasers, the use of computers in modeling and simulation.

  • Each participant may choose a subject according to his or her own interest with the schedule allowing for free time, social activities and discussion groups etc.
  • Also included is time spent in a field school in the Negev and a tour of Jerusalem.
  • Duration of this program is one month in the summer.
  • This program is very intensive and designed only for students demonstrating excellence in the field of science. Applications are assessed by a panel including scientists. The final selections are made through interview.

New immigrants please note: The summer ulpan is funded by the Student Authority for eligible students who have been accepted for studies in the regular year program.
Students at TAKA or Mechina Programs are not entitled to an academic summer ulpan as they study Hebrew within the framework of these programs.
