Monika Lev Cohen currently serves as the Aliyah representative for the Jewish Agency for Israel. In this capacity she is responsible for promoting Aliyah and Israel programs in an area covering most of the Mid-Atlantic states. She will complete her post in August 2012 whereupon she will return home to Modiin.
Before assuming her current position at the Jewish Agency she served as the Director of Academic Affairs at the Embassy of Israel in Washington DC where she worked on the cooperation between academia in Israel and its counterparts in the United States. Monika was responsible for relationships between the Embassy of Israel and international organizations, Jewish campus organizations and Israeli scholars. In addition, Monika directed the Embassy’s speakers’ bureau.
While living in Israel Monika served as Program Coordinator for a special project from the Ministry of Education encouraging young women to pursue careers in science and technology.
Monika served as the executive director of Eshkol Pais, an institute for science and art, in Bat Yam, Israel where she developed educational programs in various fields and managed teams of teachers, projects, events, exhibitions, seminars and administration.
Prior to her work at the Ministry of Education, Monika worked in consular affairs in the Embassy of Israel in Sweden and was in charge of the relations with the Israeli community.
Monika earned her Bachelor of Science and her Master of Science in Education in Technology and Science, Cum Laude from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology. She instructed chemistry and physics in high school and at the Technion and was involved in creating new science curricula for high schools in science.
During her military service, Monika served as an officer in the Youth battalions and was active in integrating new immigrants into Israeli society.
Monika has a black belt in Judo and was an instructor and referee in Israel. She is married to Ohad and has 3 children.
