Tamar Meir Schneider was born in Haifa and today lives in Mevaseret Tzion. She is married and a mother of two daughters.  She has a Bachelor's degree with Honors in Geography and Israel Studies and a Master's Degree in Public Administration. Both degrees are from the University of Haifa.

In the Army, Tamar was an Education and Israel Studies officer at the school for Commanders in Yerucham. Afterwards she served in the Hasbara and Training Unit in the North.

Tamar joined the Department of Aliyah and Absorption of the Jewish Agency in 1991 and has served in a variety of positions, dealing with both the aliyah and absorption of new immigrants.

She began her work as Cultural Coordinator in several Absorption Centers in the Haifa area, and worked with olim from around the world. This included working with students and families, while assisting them with their initial absorption.

Tamar later served as the Director of the Information and Service Center of the Jewish Agency in Haifa and the North.  In this position she was involved in: encouraging aliyah, absorption, oleh rights, Partnership 2000, and absorption in the communities in the North of Israel.  She initiated "Gallery Tzafon" in which new oleh artists displayed their works before the public.

In 2002 Tamar served as the Aliyah Shliacha in Boston and New England. In this position she assisted olim in all aspects of their aliyah, and worked in close cooperation with the Boston Jewish Federation and the Jewish community. She served on the Partnership 2000 committee Boston-Haifa.
She received recognition as an Outstanding Shaliach of the Jewish Agency.

In 2005 Tamar served as the Director of the North American Desk in the Department of Aliyah and Absorption.  In this position, she was responsible for the preparation and supervision of shlichim, assistance and supervision of the yearly work plan, and coordination between the shlichim and Directorate, while initiating a wide range of projects in North America.

In 2009 Tamar was appointed the Director of Olim Management for English-Speaking countries. Among her responsibilities is supervision of the aliyah- absorption continuum from North America, Britain, South Africa, Oceana, Holland, Scandinavia and others. She also supervises file managers and the staff of the Global Center. In addition, she is responsible for ensuring the implementation of Departmental policies, as well as preparing for the "Red Carpet" group flights.
