Sagit Kaniel, Babait Beyachad volunteer in Ramla, tells:
My husband and I are Babait Beyachad volunteers. We were paired with olim from Uruguay and have happily made new friends. This was the first time that I learnt that over the past few months many new immigrants have quietly arrived in Israel from Latin America (Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, etc.) and joined the existing South American community in neighboring Ramla.
Together with representatives of the Moshav (where we live) we decided to invite members of the South American community to join our Purim celebrations.
The moshav committee happily accepted our proposal and realized the amazing opportunity in this offer: making the olim happy, creating a direct connection between our children and the children of the new olim, and enabling a positive experience of sharing and closeness both for the hosts and the guests, in a real Purim atmosphere.
The celebrations included a duo of acrobats and Purim parcels that each moshav family gave to one of the olim families.
All the families seemed to really enjoy themselves and it looks as though many of the friendships that started that day will continue long into the future.
