Hagam: Advancing The Well-Being Of Disadvantaged Women Soldiers In The IDF

Hagam, (special recruit soldiers) a joint initiative of Isha , the Education Corps of the IDF and the Israel Association for Family Planning, addresses the needs of the most vulnerable amongst new female recruits to the Israeli army.

In each cycle of recruitment to the army, the IDF identifies female soldiers who are categorized as having low educational and psychological profiles.

Hagam aims to provide these soldiers with the information, skills and support they need to take responsibility for their behavior and decisions with respect to sexuality, as well as improving their self-image and self-confidence.

The program, led by trained facilitators, offers new female recruits a 12 hour course promoting healthy sexuality, relationships and lifestyle. Officers in charge of these soldiers undergo a simultaneous 6 hour orientation course, to help them understand the issues covered in the workshop and to maximize its effectiveness.
