The Table-to-Table organization is a national roof organization which works day and night to ensure that surplus food in good condition will not be destroyed or thrown away, but should instead reach the tables of those in need.
The organization collects food surpluses from wedding halls, restaurants, Army bases, food producers and exporters, packing houses, agricultural fields, etc. The food is then distributed to associations that assist children, the elderly, the homeless, people with disabilities and more.
The Table-to-Table organization also harvests orchards and fields which for various reasons are not being harvested, or are only partially harvested. In addition, fruit and vegetables which have already been picked, but have been disqualified for marketing due to a variety of causes despite still being in good edible condition, are collected for distribution to the needy.
This year the organization put notices on the electronic bulletin boards of the Arava settlement requesting donations of vegetables, and even telephoned some of the farmers personally. The farmers brought their produce to the main packing houses of the settlements on the date specified, where it was picked up by the organization's trucks.
Yossi Rodoler, who coordinates the efforts to find and collect the food surpluses, wrote to thank the farmers of the Arava on behalf of the Table-to-Table organization, and also on behalf of the recipients of the produce: "Thanks to you we collected some 300 tons of vegetables in the Central Arava this year". Table-to-Table sent its heartfelt thanks to the Arava farmers who generously helped this worthy organization.
