Twenty-three women, American and Israeli, joined together to write and produce the book "Nice to Meet You: Stories and Tastes from the Women of SPBC and Kiryat Bialik" that has been published these days within the framework of the Jewish Agency's Partnership 2000 project in KB. The book, all in Hebrew and English, contains recipes, pictures and personal stories by the participants. The recipes draw a colorful rainbow of flavors of the many Diasporas of the Jewish People; next to them are various stories of immigration and other aspects of Jewish identity as experienced by women on both sides of the ocean. In between are scattered Jewish jokes and epigrams, along with personal and family pictures. A beautiful graphic design adds an elegant touch and makes the book especially attractive.
The book was launched in Kiryat Bialik in a festive event honored by Mayor Rafi Wertheim, whose wife Hanna is one of the contributors to the book. In his greetings, Mayor Wertheim pointed out the excellent relationship between Kiryat Bialik and the Jewish Federation of SPBC; as an example he mentioned the current project of computerizing and upgrading of all school bomb shelters in Kiryat Bialik, supported by a very generous donation from the Federation. Gidi Shilo, Steering Committee co-chair, and Sima Buhbut, "Nice to Meet You" project co-chair, both commended the completion of yet another successful project of this partnership, and told about the enthusiastic comments they have received from their Boca counterparts. Eshel Fram, Partnership Director for the Jewish Agency, remarked that the partnership between KB and Boca Raton has become a role model to other partnerships all over Israel for the warm, strong personal bonds that developed between members of the two communities.
